Exhaust smell hrough AC, then puff car won't idle

I have a 1999 9-5 Wagon with about 130K miles. I've had an exhaust smell coming in through the AC all season, primarily when I am idling. My mechanic can't find any problems. I had this last year and replacing a hose solved the problem. I have to admit, I'm not good on routine maintenance (except oil changes) b/c I'm always spending money on repairs. Yesterday, I had my AC charged and they took another look for the exhaust problem--still nothing.
As soon as I got home from the mechanic, I punched the gas a little going up my driveway, the car gave a cough, then died. Now it starts but won't stay idling if I take my foot off the gas. If I punch the gas blue or black smoke comes out the exhaust and I get that smell again. It's not the smell of a bad CC.
I've recently had new turbo chargers, I had whole new engine during the sledge problem three years ago (top and bottom) and the fuel pump, water pump and AC condenser all new.
What happened?
