Eight months and counting..... Posted by MI-Roger [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Does SID repair last? - advise is needed, vino, Sun, 1 Jul 2007 13:17:04 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had my SID repaired last October. It had failed in August of '05 and had become effectively worthless as a readout. I tolerated its missing pixels until they nearly disappeared completely. The unit that failed was a replacement unit that I purchased new around 2 years prior to that. The factory unit had failed at around 2 years of age, and I tolerated its missing lines until they became too much to overlook.
Over a month ago I noticed that high temperatures and high humidity would sometimes cause one vertical line in the display to fail. It is the line that forms the center of the "M" in AM or FM when using the radio. In nearly two months this has happened maybe 6 times, and it always reappears within minutes - so far.
In answer to your question; it appears the ~$100 repairs may not be permanent for all of us. But compared to a new $300 SID that will fail in 2 to 3 years time the repair still seems to be the most rational choice.
