I recently had the CEL come on and looked up the code only to find the infamous p0340. The car is a 1999 w/ 2.3 4cyl. This was the only code displayed. I was driving on the freeway and slowing down and the car suddenly stalled. The check engine light was on until I checked it a few days later. However, after the stall, the car would hardly idle. I cleared the code and started the car up and it ran fine until I left the parking lot, jumped on the gas and the CEL came on again, of course it has the rough idle too. I just replaced the plugs with saab genuine plugs about a month before this started. No recall on IDM so I'm guessing its original. Curiousity is killing me, how does clearing the code allow the vehicle to run fine but after getting into the gas it goes straight to crap again? If I had faulty ignition it would be a continuous problem and not curable by clearing the code. Does this suggest ECU or what ever computer control exists in the car or is there an actual mechanical sensor that is failing under high stress such as full throtle acceleration.
