Recently, I reported to the list a "hesitation problem" the '03 was experiencing. An OBD/Tech II check of things indicated a throttle body (TB) problem. A thorough TB cleaning seemed to help, but the car finally died on me yesterday forcing a tow to K&N in Ann Arbor. They diagnosed the problem as a defective fuel pump, which belied the earlier diagnostic code. The hesitation was quite probably an early sign of impending fuel pump failure. I, too, noticed about a 2 mpg decrease in economy as all this was taking place. The car performed normally coming back (~62 miles)and the mileage correspondingly reverted to its usual freeway level of 32+
mpg. Mind you, this is one rather short hop on the highway, but it seems likle its old self now, $334.33 later. I have a couple of longish trips planned in the next few weeks, so I'll post another update after I return.
I guess that paying attention to an OBD code can be a lot like paying attention to Mapquest admonitions.
