No achilles heel to watch out for, though some folks would put the alleged sludge issues in that vein. Do get a Pre Purchase Inspection, preferrably with the folks you've selected to help you maintain the car, and preferrably a less expensive independent as opposed to a dealer. And I'd wanna' know the service history on any car, who's been doing the maintenance?
2002 was the first year of the mid cycle enhancement with slightly revised styling, 5 speed autos, and Aeros with sport seats. Are you an Aero kinda' guy? Aero folks know who they are. The appeal of sport suspension and sport wheels goes unsaid. 2000 was the first year for the Aero.
99's are generally condsidered to be the least reliable, but overall 9-5's are very good so a '99 isn't neccessarily to be flatly rejected, could be a good one, and there's always that price/model year/value equation.
And the coolest Saab of all is the ultimate hatchback, a 9-5 SportWagon....
