Bluetooth IHF1000 - Piece of cake Posted by Dano in Texas [Email] (#1125) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Dano in Texas) on Wed, 11 Jul 2007 19:27:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thanks to others who have posted here, I took the plunge and installed a Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth handsfree unit in my wife's 2003 9-5 Aero sedan. I bought the IHF1000 on ebay and the Saab wiring harness from genuinesaab. It only took about 30 minutes to decode and crimp the wires from the harness to the IHF1000 wiring harness and about an hour to remove the radio and install the unit in the car. Here are some tips:
1. Take apart the pin cover on the Saab wiring harness to decode the wire colors of the pins. I had seen some different info online here than what I actually discovered for myself. Use the Motorola supplied microphone! Only 6 wires need connecting with the crimp connectors.
Pin 1 - ground - black
Pin 4 - mute - yellow
Pin 7 - Line (speaker) output ground (neg)- blue/white
Pin 10 - 12V key contolled voltage - red/blue
Pin 11 - 12V power supply - red
Pin 16 - Line (speaker) output (pos) - white/gray
Cut the white 8 pin connector off the Motorola harness and connect to above Saab harness with crimp connectors (see #2) using the Motorola supplied schematic. It is very easy. If you took Junior High School electic shop you can do this.
2. I bought Telephone Butt Connectors (26-22 gauge) from Radio Shack for $2 and crimped the Saab harness and the Motorola harness wires together.
3. I bought the cheapie radio remover u-shaped wires from Walmart. When you insert the wires and hear the click, use your fingers stuck in the casette opening to help pull the radio out.
4. Push out the ACC panel (below the radio) to give you a little more room to work. You will have to move the auto trans out of Park position.
5. I placed the Motorola control head on the shifter console and ran the wire in under the small compartment/shelf at the bottom of the dash.
6. I placed the blue Motorola box (guts) and the extra wire inside the panel above the drivers feet/below the steering wheel.
Everything worked on the first connection and my wife's Motorola Razer phone connected immediately with the Bluetooth unit. The sound and function is fabulous. I highly recommend this unit! If you like the OnStar handsfree phone service you will love the IHF1000 speech recognition handsfree operation.
Good Luck.
