Trionic only adjusts the engine to not damage itself. In my '01 V6 I used 87 octane when I first got it. It never pinged or knocked; it ran pretty well. Tried 93 once and there's no going back. There is so much more power for going up long hills and just general driving. It used to be loud and buzzy and shift back and forth from gears but now it just sits at 1700rpm and boosts up hills. There's not so much of a mileage difference for me, just more power. I would think that in the new 2.3l 260hp version that it would make a more noticeable difference. To get 260hp out of that engine there's some high compression and major boost. While 87 won't hurt the engine, it would run much better on a higher octane. If you switch from 87 to 93 it will take a little while for Trionic to realize it. Do some hard accelerations or unplug the battery for an hour or so and do some hard accelerations after you plug it back in. If you go from a high octane to a low octane though, trionic will make the change almost immediately. (Even though I have the V6 it still uses the same Trionic 7 engine management).
