If you are incredibly bothered by the sound of fuel sloshing, then do spend $1000 for a new tank and baffle, or unknown money for a baffle replacement.
Since either of the above options entail starting over with yet another tank with what I considered to be a defective baffle design, I opted to take the darn baffle out and put up with any noise that may occur. With 1/4 tank, I have not heard anything objectionable, but then I have 51 year old ears and I cut my teeth learning to drive in a '71 Chevy C20 pickup truck with the dreaded in-cab (behind the seat) fuel tank and also had a Model A Ford as a toy for a long time (that one has the tank in the cowl).
The baffle is fairly big, so it will take some time and effort to get it all out. I opted to pay my indie $130 to do all of this and consider it to be money well-spent (and I used to work -- up 'til last year -- on gasoline tanker trucks. I consider them as safer than working inside a confined area with those fumes circulating around).
If you're lucky, you can get the job done before the mount is broken!
