My '02 sport combi was having the same issues as Steve W., as outlined in this thread, and that had been going on for a month or so.
http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=158415
I took mine to my buds at M&M Saab, woodstock, ga and a bout 1/2 hr later my baffle was out on the floor of the shop and my gas gauge was working again. It was the first 9-5 they'd pulled the baffle on, though not the last I'll bet, after seeing the baffle, which is a long piece of thin plastic that's snaked around inside the tank, I can see why they fail. I wouldn't feel bad if I was charged a couple hours for this job, it's tedious and nasty, though not particularly difficult save for snaking the pump assembly out without damaging it.
I had run my tank down to just about empty a few times lately and I'll bet that's one reason for the failure, I can see where the baffle would collapse without enough gas to hold it in place.
Thanks again, Steve W.
