hiccups and starting problems = CPS

I'm usually not one to post in bulletin boards, but the postings here saved me a lot of aggravation (and money).
2 weeks ago my wifes 1999 9-5 started having problems, engine hiccups, stalling at traffic lights and problems starting with a hot engine (usually
after it was driven for a longer time and left parked for a while).
There were no error messages being displayed and the mechanic really didn't know where to start. His first attempt was replacing the ignition cassette
(DIC) but that didn't fix it and I planned to get the car to the workshop after the weekend. His next would probably have been the fuel system.
Faced with a possible excursion of repair costs I googled my problems and rather quickly found them described on this bulletin board. The common denominator was a flaky crankshaft position sensor (CPS), so I asked the mechanic to replace it. Although a bit reluctant (mumbling something about internet folklore) he did replace the sensor. I've been driving the car for a couple of days and the problems seem to have been fixed.
So, girls and guys posting on this board; Thanks for all the information and saving us a lot of money, time and aggravation!
BTW, I did notice that the problems with the CPS only have been starting to show up in the last 1.5 years. Looks like these things are now starting to flake out. Couldn't hurt if they would be replaced as a precaution.
Thanks,
Gerrit van Nieuwenhuizen, Shirley, NY
