Those cable actuated hose clamp pliers reduce this job to being only moderately difficult, with the only real challenge being lack of space.
Boy! When these valves decide to fail, it is right now! No warning other than maybe a small amount of coolant consumption immediately prior to failure, similar to a small or slow leak somewhere.
Once again my "magic car" had a component fail in the driveway and didn't leave me stranded on the roadway. This driveway failure mode has affected: battery, crankshaft position sensor, and now the heater by-pass valve, with the fuel pump failing less than 2 miles from home.
Now you know why I love this car so much!
