Fuel, air and ignition.... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: car cranks but won't start, raine413, Fri, 20 Jul 2007 16:05:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
These are the basics...you must have fuel, air, and ignition in the right qualities and quantities in order for the car to turn over and continue running.
Two somewhat common problems come to mind with the problem you are having.
1. The ignition cassett; when it fails the air/fuel mixture is not ignited.
2. The fuel pump; when it fails no fuel is provided.
The above is an oversimplified picture of what could be wrong. There are a host of other things that can disrupt properly timed effective ignition, or adequate fuel delivery injected when needed.
The good news is that it should be easy to diagnose; there is nothing intermittent about a car that won't start and must be towed.
Good luck
