Last Fall the A/C on my 2000 9-5 aero wagon stopped functioning properly. The drivers side vents were blowing only hot, the passenger side pnly cold. I took the car in to the dealer who had been doing my work, and they said I needed anew heater box- at a cost of almost $4k.

So I began noodling around on this site, and found that :i) there was a kit that the dealer should know about that would enable them to replace only a portion of the heater box, and transfer the parts; and ii) frequently the problem was a broken blend door shaft which can be repaired without taking the whole dash apart, using an aftermarket kit, at a fraction of the time, trouble and cost.

I presented this information to the dealer, who then offered to do fix i), still at a cost of over $2 grand. But they said, though the Tech 2 diagnosed Code B2495, the problem was not the blend door shaft, and thus the "quick fix" was not a solution in this case.

At that point though, having failed to offer me the $2k fix from the outset, frankly I no longer trusted the dealer.

After living with the problem for a good while, last week I finally decided to let my local service station take a crack at the problem.
They determined that it was, in fact, the blend door shaft after all. They purchased and successfully installed the aftermarket kit. And today, for the first time in many months, I drove home feeling A/C on the driver's side. At a trivial fraction of the cost I was originally quoted by the dealer.

So kudos to:
Soundview Servicenter, Mamaroneck, NY for diagnosing and fixing this
Saabservices.com for their repair kit, which did the job admirably and fit perfectly
Me- for smelling a rat and finding the rat poison
Most of all- Saabnet.com for providing the answers

And a big Anti-kudo to:
The dealer, who shall remain nameless but deserves to be named.
