I was surprised when the OE belt on my '02 looked *perfect* after 50K+ miles. It was a "Hutchinson", whom I never heard of but with a web search they claim to have invented the poly-V (aka serpentine) belt. The replacement was a Goodyear "Gatorback" which I've had good luck with in the past. Continentals (typical "Saab Genuine Part" brand) seem to be shorter lived. But do double check the tensioner. It's pretty easy to relieve the tension and lock the tensioner even without removing the motor mount, then you can verify that the tensioner pulley is OK. If the belt edge is shredding, the tensioner pulley might have worn to the point of tilting out of square.
