Inner drivers will usually show themselves during acceleration. its a low pitched sound due to the mass, and it can be felt in the steering wheel, and heard.
A hum at speed certainly suggests a bearing, but its puzzling that it comes in 6-8 second "bursts".
Can get the noise to change?
- by changing lanes left or right agressivley (to load or un-load the bearing.
- by accelerating or decelerating (decelerating without brakes)? (to load or unload the drivetrain)
- by braking?
