Athough I haven't used GPS, my SpeedO is reads a little faster than I am going as well. I have timed long stints -vs- measured miles on the side of the road. Although my methods were not the most precise I found the speedO to be slightly off as well.
As an interesting note I also noticed that my speedO and SID seem to display different speeds. With my cruise set at 70 MPH on a flat road I reset my average speed function and drove for a few minutes. Although the speedO never dropped below 70MPH the average speed displayed on the SID was 68MPH. I have repeated the test a few times and it always comes out that the speedO reads a higher speed than the average speed.
One more side note for those of us leasing our vehicles... If the speedO is off by 3% than the odomoeter is most likely off by the same amount. So If I turn my car in with a Odo reading of 46,350 miles on it the car only went 45,000 miles. The extra three percent or 1,350 miles I would have to pay for... 1,350 * $0.15 = $202.50... Bastards...
