Night Panel/Parking Assist -- Quirk or Malfunction?

I just noticed that on my 2005 9-5 Arc wagon, when the night panel is engaged and the parking assist is activated (i.e. the car is in reverse and the rear of the car is near a fixed object,) the parking assist will beep (as it is supposed to,) but the "parking assist" message does not appear on the SID.
I would have thought that the "parking assist" message on the SID would illuminate, just as any other message would illuminate the SID, even when in night panel mode. I find the SID message useful, because I often play music loud, and cannot hear the beeps of the parking assist system. When I see the SID display the "parking assist" message, I know to turn down the music so i can hear the parking assist beeps.
Is this a quirk (or flaw) in the design, or just a malfunction of my particular vehicle?
Thanks
