It's a little different because I have a 2001 V6, which was covered under the DIC recall; I don't believe the 2000's were. Anyway, my car had something like 161k miles on it. It was actually the previous owner who had the DIC die on him while he was on the highway. He drove the car firing on 3 cylinders to the next exit to a gas station where it was towed. I got the car cheap because the dealer told him $3,000 for a new cat and brakes all-around. The recall came out JUST when I bought the car. (He had already replaced the DIC for the ridiculous price of $500). The recall states, and this is what's important for you:
"When the IDM fails on the 6 cylinder engine while it is running, the driver will initially experience reduced power and rough operation because the engine will only be running on three cylinders. The check engine light will flash. If the driver continues, unburnt fuel in the exhaust can cause thermal damage to the catalytic converter...."
This is important to you because Saab is basically admitting that DIC failure in the V6 can lead to a damaged catalytic converter. Now, my little story is that I dropped the car off at the dealer to have this done under the recall. I get a phonecall that night with the woman saying something like, "We thought your car only had 61k miles on it, we missed the '1,' we thought it was just covered under the 80k emissions warranty." I got a little hot with them as they said they would do it over the phone, she called someone and called me back and they ended up doing it. Anyway, I think you've got a case here. See if you can print out a copy of the recall notice, even though you're not covered. It directly states that DIC failure can lead to cat damage. Good luck!
