So I am in San Francisco, showing it off to my cousin from Italy, when we go down hill from one of the steep hills next to the famous Crooked street. I decided to put the car in lower gear just to be sure I can stop the car!!! BIG MISTAKE. The gear gets stuck on the "3", and the car is running hard. I get all teh "Check Engine" and "check Gear Box" lights and the SID is going crazy with warning messages.
I tried moving the shifter up and down and every other gear works, like the car goes in reverse, parks, neutral, but it won't go into "D" drive.
So I park the car in NO PARKING spot after 15 minutes (coudn't find a parking space)and open the hood.
I get the message that the car is overheating, so I turn it off.
I tell my wife to take the guest to Pier39 while I stay with teh car to figure out what to do. I start the car just to check what happens and it turns over and does the "check" and then the car goes into "D" drive.
I turn off the car and let it cool and start again after 10 minutes and every thing comes okay, the car is running smooth, no more over heating, gear stuck etc...
SO my question
1. Has anyone else had this issue?
2. why did the gear get stuck in "3" but it was shifting to park/reverse/neutral but NOT drive???
3. Pardon my ignorance, bt can anyone explain the "3" "2" and "1" gears???
Thanks
Bob
