Hope someone can offer some insight. I posted a while back about my 2000 9-5, 2.3 lpt, 109K miles, not cranking over because my engine was locked up. Well, it turns out my oil pump let go and locked my engine up and would not let it turn. I've removed the broken oil pump gears, so now my engine is free again. I pulled my valve cover and oil pan and everything seems pretty normal with no visible obvious damage, so I'm hoping most of the metal stayed in the oil pump housing and my oil filter caught any residual metal (I'm ever the optimist). Obviously I'll do a thorough engine flush and oil pan cleaning when and if I get to that point.
My question is, I need to replace the oil pump gear set obviously, along with the seals/o-rings which I can get from Eeuroparts.com for relatively cheap money (around $75). I also believe I need to change the outer oil pump housing because I see some damage done to that my the broken gear. Is the housing part of the timing cover, or a seperate part? Does anyone have insight as to changing the housing? I have access to WIS, and they don't mention the oil pump housing anywhere, just the oil pump itself. And the instructions to remove and replace the timing cover never mentions doing anything to the oil pump, just pulling the crank pulley off, which leads me to believe they are 2 seperate things, otherwise how could you pull the timing cover off without removing the big snap ring that holds the oil pump cover in place. The local Saab parts counter guy said the timing cover is a part of the oil pump housing, but he did not have one in stock to verify.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!
