PCV Check Valve Hose Loose

Last week my 2001 9-5 SE (74K miles) started doing what I could best describe as a combination of surging at idle (with an upward blip of the boost gauge) and the opposite (the engine would seem to sag and there would be a dip of the boost gauge). My OBDII reported no codes. Two days later (before I could get the engine checked) my alternator failed, which took precedence over the surging issue. The mechanic who replaced the alternator is not a Saab specialist. He thought the surging might be from the undercharging alternator. He recommended I drive the car a while after the alternator was replaced to see if the surging went away. The surging /sagging continued, and today I took off the engine cover to see if the engine was in limp home mode, or if there were any visible vacuum leaks. I noticed that the hose that leads rearward and down from the whitle plastic check valve has little droplets of oil on it, sort of like it had been sweating. The hose is soft, and fits very loosely on the rear of the check valve, almost to the point of falling off. The connection at the other end (oil trap?) is tight. The check valve looks pretty new, with virtually no discoloration or dirt. I suspect it may have been replaced at the 60K service, which was done in January. I am suspicious that this hose and or hose connection is leaking. It is easy to remove and replace, so I was planning to just take it off and take it to the auto parts store to have them cut a replacement for me. Is there anything special about this hose that makes using generic vacuum hose a bad idea?
