My 9-5 was tested yesterday for rear impact...

While stopped for road work a young kid in a beat up plymouth decided to save his break pads by using my rear to come to a complete stop. My meticulously maintained 2.3lpt is now off to get repaired. I am waiting to see what exactly needs to be done. The lower rear bumper was mostly hit on the driver side which more or less is pushed down and to the left. The trunk lid and tail lights were untouched. My park assist still works fine. However, it appears that there is a give now in the upper part of the driver side rear quarter panel. I think it took the energy of the impact. From the look of it nothing appears to be greatly damaged, just cosmetics.
I guess my question is (of course without seeing it and my mediocre description) could the integrity of that side of the car be compromised in any way? I was hit good but not severly.
I am very impressed with how the car handled the impact. It's a 2003 and I believe it has one of the highest safety ratings. I was kept snug in my seat and for a moment I felt like I was in a tank. I just wish I could take the Saab's word for how safe they are and not experience it.
