come up with some weird Saab issue and running it by them to see if they can get it right. Something like an erratic BPC problem on a 9000. Really put it out there, like:
"I have a 1996 Saab 9000 with 388,000 miles on it. The car runs perfectly most of the time but sometimes the car has just tons of power and the boost gauge goes right past the red zone and then the engine cuts out, like it's not getting gas. As soon as I lift off the gas it works fine again. This doesn't happen all the time. My mechanic says the turbocharger and something called the wastegate are working fine. The car is otherwise in excellent running condition and gets 30 mpg on the highway. But I'm worried that this problem will hurt the engine. What is happening and what can I do?
This problem is a fictionalized version of one I had with a flaky BPC solenoid. Would love to see what they say. Maybe I'll give them a call...
I listen to CarTalk when I can, and have downloaded it via iTunes to listen to on a road trip. I enjoy them, but some of their advice is really off the wall and sometimes flat wrong. Decent entertainment, but that's about it.
