Saab pays for replacement of the timing belt on the V6 at 60,000 miles but not the timing belt tensioner. Bad experiences by many owners suggest the tensioner may have the same life expectancy as the belt.
A failed timing belt or timing belt tensioner will cause the pistons and valves to strike, resulting in a seriously damaged (maybe beyond repair) engine.
No other issues with the V6 engine, and none with the 2002 model year, that I recall.
