Well, this is mainly for my records, but I thought I would share it. The rear muffler has been going for 1+ years, and while not too loud, it was time to get it replaced. Did not want to spend the money on an OEM, so this solution seemed to work.

Autozone Parts
1 Cherry Bomb Turbo (not sure if I got the pro or the turbo) < $30
Part Number 16804
1 2 3/8" inside dia flexible exhaust repair kit, not the wrap kind < $5 Part number 17036
1 2 1/4" u bolt exhaust clamp < $2
Part number 17126
1 end tip of choice, $5-$15.

This is what I did and it seemed to work

a) remove the old muffler by cutting the pipe near the front end of the muffler

b) Remove the two back hangers from the old muffler, should peel off

c) Place the flexible tubing over the pipe and muffler

d) Measure up the muffler and where the two hangers should go on the back, Mark the muffler with a large marker, weld into place using low setting on arc welder or use wire welder.

e) Place muffler in the hanger and use the two u bolts (one from the flex tube kit) to secure the flex tube on the pipe end and the muffler end.

f) put the tip on the end of the muffler.

This really seemed to work pretty well. VERY quiet. Will see performance and gas mileage will change if at all. Total cost about $50. Much cheaper than the replacements.

Also, make sure to affix the Cherry Bomb outside letters to the car somewhere :-). I usually do not do this, but the red lettering matched the color pretty closely.

Ok, anyone have any comments on this, Good, Bad, Ugly?

The only thing that I will have to redo a bit is the muffler hangs about 1-2" low. Will have to cut the hangers and shorten a bit. If this is taken into account when welding, you may not have to do this.

I will try and get some photos on this when I take off to bring the hangers up a bit.
