The PAL is a module that connects to some GM "Black Tie" radios and provides song info from the ipod to the radio display. Additionally changing songs, etc can be controlled from the steering wheel. Even though the folks at the saabusa website said the PAL would work, I am now convinced that it will not. While the Blacktie Radio in my '06 may appear to be the same unit found in other cars like the Sky and Solstice, the pinouts are different. For instance the pins on the radio for the right front speakers have no mating wires on the PAL harness. The pinouts for the radio are on the top of the unit. I have no equivalent for the PAL harness, so moving wires is not practicle. BTW, the head unit is NOT a Delphi, it is a Fujitsu Ten item from Spain. The amplifier is an HK box in the right front footwell behind the kick panel.
The instructions that came with the unit are for Solstice/Sky and Chevrolet HHR. Both of these cars have something called a Body Control Module or BCM of which there does not appear to be an equivalent in the 9-5. At the BCM there is a connector with what appears to be a terminator. The instructions tell you to remove one socket from the connector and splice wire from the PAL to it. The wire is marked XM. The XM unit in the trunk did not have this kind of connector or termination either. There are several modules of various function inside the instrument panel, but none of them had the unique flat connector like in the diagrams.
All said, it has been a frustrating experience. Has anyone else attempted this? If anyone wants to work with me to make it work, leave a message here.
