Hi Swedecar - was wondering if you could mention any of the less obvious places where you have seen vacuum leaks. I check all the hoses and replaced a good many, check the purge valve, everything where a vacuum line is involved. I'm getting surging at idle but can also feel uneveness at higher rpms - you can see the movement on the the tb plate when this is happening and it only happens under 10% of the time.
About 2 months ago I replaced the TB - it had gone 100K miles and was setting 1231 and 1260 codes. I put a reman on - and then the surging started.
I was troubleshooting the other day by disconnectiing the vacuum hoses and plugging intakes in the hope of isolatiing the leak - but all I got was huge clouds of blue grey smoke the next day when I started the car - it's now back to normal.
I installed PVC # 6 5 months back, it's a 1999 I4 with 110k miles.
I've never had to take any car in for anything except warranty and things like wheel alignments, but is it time to have the tech II scan done at a shop, as I'm stumped here,
thanks
