As soon as the new models are released, the last years' models become a year old. Then, the residual calculation becomes based on the car being 4 years old at the end of a 36 to 39 month lease, and that positively blows the economics. Even without year end incentives, the lease price for an '08 will come in substantially below that for an '07 with incentives. You might be able to finesse the issue with a 30 month lease, but then you have six fewer months of principle payments as you try to reach the same end point in terms of paying off the depreciation. I suspect (without calculating) that with a substantial incentive, a 30 month lease on an '07 will give a similar payment as a 36 (or 39) month lease on an '08. If there's a particular model/equipment/color choice you are in love with, it might then be a way to go, but otherwise, you are just spinning wheels.
