I replaced my OEM struts and springs on my 2002 Aero at 65,000 miles not because they were visibly leaking but because the ride quality had degraded just due to the struts feeling "flaccid". I removed all of them and on inspection the rears were both unable to allow any kind of dampening at all and the fronts were quite easy to push the piston up and down and met very little resistance. In my case the rear of the car did sit down a bit and even more with either a passenger in the back or with a full tank of gas.
My car came from the Main Line of Pennsylvania before it got into my hands out here in Phoenix, AZ and it was obvious that the car had led a tough life on some bad roads. I replaced my motor mounts along with installing Koni Yellows and H&R sports from Taliaferro Saab and the ride is much improved. I adjusted the rear struts to about 3/4 towards firm in the rear and 2/3'rds towards firm in the front and admittedly I would prefer the ride to be a bit more firm.. but it is a good compromise for daily driving.
