My V6 has 174k miles right now and is blowing smoke when I start it and when I let off the gas after hard acceleration. I don't have $2k to spend right now so I am looking for anything. I found this on another forum:

"No way! Facing now a third turbo for this 01 with only 40K in as many months. Blowin oil smoke out the exhaust, drippin down the exhaust side, P0143 TC(O2#1 no response)...this thing is getting tooo much oil!

Take the banjo bolt above the oil filter out, cut a suitable piece of steel tubing to slide in with some resistance a few mm longer so it can be removed easily...drill one hole(instead of four)...take it out for an italian test drive. So far, so good.

So when you get the call for a $1900 turbo + labor, try this first, as I havent seen a one of these truly "bad", ie loose bearing, bad turbine or compressor, just a gooed sealing ring."


Does it make any sense? What do you think?
