there's a bit of history to this. I bought the car (1999 9-5 wagon) last fall from a saab dealer in austin. They told me the car had a new engine and turbo put in by saab last summer. this is even though the car was out of warranty. They told me the new engine and turbo wouldnt have any type of warranty coverage. I had a independent saab mechanic give the car a going over and got a clean bill. some months later i noticed the car acting up after being driven a period of time (hesitation and then bulching HUGE smoke from the exhaust. I eventually had it looked by my mechanic in houston and they said there was a cracked something (manifold?) and it allowed messed up the air/fuel mixture and fouled up the spark plugs to where the car was running on three cylinders. the repaired and the car has been running great since. Then this summer i moved to NYC and towed my stuff up. During the trip the same thing happened again with the smoke in knoxville, tn. I went to the dealer there and they said there was nothing wrong. They attributed it to stress on the engine and going the thru the mountains where the turbo couldn't operate as efficiently. They repaired something else minor and I was on my way.... but this time the car belches smoke REALLY bad after I drive it awhile. It happened in bklyn and i had it towed to a saab mechanic there, who told me the engine needs to be replaced. he said oil is leaking into the #4 cylinder and thats causing the problem.
Anyone have any ideas?
