that 20,000 mile stuff is in my opinion a scam, and i've heard it too. Mine went at 40,000. Take off the right front wheel and look- you can see the backing plate and then the pad between the plate and the rotor. If you have 1/4" or even less, relax for 5000 more, then look again. If really 4 mm (.157 inch) you need pads. At 40,00-50,000 you'll need to do pads and rotors. The rotors cost maybe $50 each aftermarket, the pads for 4 wheels maybe $225, maybe less. If he quoted $650 for two wheels, he's over the top for sure.
Finally, I've got orginal rear pads at 63,000 - they go MUCH later than the front.
I took my car for inspection a month ago and the guy barely looked and said i needed reaqr pads - I said I don't think so - he said, well, soon.
Don't get me srong - by ridingf the pedal you can ruin tre brakes in 20,000, but not otherwise.
