Code P1110 and the Hooter Valve Posted by Joe [Email] ![]() ![]() |
As I posted my Saab had a check engine light had come on. I went
to Advance Auto and inquired about code readers and they guy
immediately gave me a reader to read the codes. I brought the
reader back in and he printed out code P1110. The store did not
have an exact diagnosis, just it had to do with air/fuel. Great
:-/
I went to Auto Zone and they came out and read the codes. Same
thing. Seems P1110 is a manufacturer specific code to Saab and is not in the tool's database.
Pep Boys had the $129 reader on sale for $89 with a $10 rebate.
I get home and it turns out the rebate is really $20 :-)
I Google Saab P1110 and find a few postings that suggest the
Charge Bypass Valve (a.k.a "Hooter Valve") This bypasses the
turbocharger at certain times and makes a funny horn or hooting
sound sometimes. One of the checks they suggested was for a torn
diaphragm.
I go out and pull the vacuum hose off the valve and hook up my
vacuum pump and the valve hold vacuum just fine :-/ The vacuum
hose was hard and brittle. On a wim, I look at the vacuum hose
and wonder what the hooter was hooked to. I follow the line back
and it goes nowhere... The hose was disconnected. I snooped
around and found the control valve that it hooked to. I plugged
it in.
I used my new scan tool to erase the codes and drove around the
block. The light stayed off :-)
I guess I have to pick up some vacuum hose.
Does anyone know what size the vacuum hose is in the 9-5?
Drive Safe,
Joe
