What happened to Dexron-III????????? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 20 Oct 2007 15:04:24 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I bought 4 qts of Texaco auto tranny fluid today and saw the front of the bottle identifies the fluid as type MD-3. The back of the bottle says it is fully compatible for all pre-2006 automatic transmisions which originally required Dexron-III.
I just did an internet search and discovered that Dexron-III has been superseded by Dexron-VI (from 3 to 6 in one step?). All licensing agreements for Dexron-III between GM and oil blenders expired at the end of 2006. Someone posted a very formal worded statement (i.e. corporate legalese) declaring that only Dexron-VI should now be used in ANY vehicle.
Am I the only one who missed this change?
What about Dexron-VI and the 3309(?) fluid required in recent Saabs?
Should I use this MD-3 or take it back to the store?
Has anyone seen Dexron-VI in any store?
