Yes you can simply unplug it and remove it from under the fender. The remote will still work. there are no issues.
As 8AA2YM said, the SID will remind you to "Service Theft Alarm" each time you start. If you can live with that then you are done.
If you can't live with that, using a Tech II you have two options:
1 - disable the alarm
2 - switch the alarm device to the car horn. Instead of a "chirp" you get a "beep" when you lock, unlock, etc.
