First car I've had in 23 years that has needed a tow except for a hit and run and a theft.
The car has needed tows for the idler pulley/serpentine belt.
The next was a DI cassette
The last was a fuel pump....
Mine has had excellent care and maintenance. In addition, I've had most of the early 9-5 issues.... Window rollers, wiper transmission arm broke, cracked coolant valve at the firewall, synchro's in the manual transmission, SID's by multiples, lousy fog lights & bracket assembly, clunk in the steering column, etc.
Yes, it now has 147K on it. But by the same token, I've taken every car I've owned in the same period to at least this mileage; most to over 200k. I've had lot's of fleet experience, worked the auto auctions, and have not ever had this experience.
That said, I've really liked the car with the exception of the transmission linkage and synchro's, and the fact that I'm not completely comfortable with my wife or kids in it if I'm not nearby. I'm ok on the side of the road solo (granted, pissed off!), but it is a problem with a 1 year old and 2 year old and the typical AAA hour plus wait. It's still frustrating.
Saabnet has been amazingly useful for savings and troubleshooting, as well as DIY fixes. Without saabnet, I would be MUCH more down on saab, and the repairs would have been prohibitively expensive. I REALLY feel for the people who don't have mechanical aptitude, time, or whatever.
