Great car, I've got an '01 V6. The only thing on the V6 that absolutely MUST be done no questions asked is the timing belt AND tensioners every 60k miles. Don't even THINK about trying to get 120k out of the tensioners. Saab does not recommend replacing them and some dealers don't either; they just check the spec on the rollers. Just do it. You will be kicking yourself when you're driving down the road smiling at how much money you saved by waiting on the tensioners and then having one of them give, sending the valves slamming into the pistons. A $650 preventative maintance item will then turn into a $4k or more engine replacement.
If they're still under warranty have them pay attention to blue smoke at startup. The Garrett GT-17 turbos they use on the LPT 4-cylinders and V6's don't have excellent seals in them and they wear out. Some go around 60k, I just had mine rebuilt to the tune of $1500 after squeezing 172k miles out of it.
Other than that it's a great engine. Mine has 173k on it and it keeps on going, and going, and going. Knock on wood...
