I just wanted to thank everyone who has posted on this board in the past and everyone who continues to post. I just completed some DIY work on my 2000 Saab 9-5 wagon with 125k. All of this was fairly straightforward thanks to the excellent posts on this board.
1) New blower fan - Classic symptoms. Purchased a new fan from one of the site sponsors. Fairly straightforward install except that I broke one of those white nylon plastic clips that hold the plastic cover to the windshield. The part was $24!
2) Also replaced the windshield wiper rack. One poster had a DIY repair, but I had waited such a long time that the parts did not fit together well. Of course, getting the wiper arms off was quite the challenge. I bought the wiper frame new as I figured a used one may break again and I really don't want to do this again.
3) Window master switch. Again, it seems to be a common problem that the contacts get dirty. I was already to order a used replacement but everything works fine after a simple cleaning (once I figured out how to take it apart).
So thank to all of you I believe I save well over $1000 compared to my local dealer, and this doesn't include the ABS controller I repaired this summer.
Because of the active community on Saabnet I would definitely by another SAAB in the future.
