oil level in manual tranny

Anyone help with quick question? I want to check if the oil level is OK in a manual box as there is a slight weep from the seal around the shift shaft where it enters the casing. Not much, but over time it adds up. Seal has been replaced, but weep remains-not much, but I'd like to keep an eye on the level just in case. I have a suitable tool for removing the level plug-is there any sort of seal or washer on the plug which I should replace(and so need to get) before putting it back? Many thanks for any help
