The "electro-guts" of the key are directly under the battery flap with the FCC-ID, and don't extended further.
Do I understand correctly, you drilled through the top and bottom of the plastic? As far as I know, there is a "chip" with the Key Code, to enable the inserted key to be authenticated. Anyone know where it is located?
Also, I don't think there's much need to reinforce the key. I kept the two blanks from my ePRay purchase, and have played with them quite a bit. They're solid as a rock!
