How big of mess will you tolerate? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 1 Dec 2007 07:54:47 In Reply to: Coolant Bypass Valve Replacement, KarlDek, Sat, 1 Dec 2007 07:47:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced my coolant by-pass valve this summer without draining the coolant. I had a two foot diameter puddle under the car when done as the coolant did not flow neatly into my drain pan when the hoses were pulled free from the valve.
I was able to hose down the drive when finished with no staining of the concrete by the glycol mixture. Even if I had drained the system, I may still have had a puddle on the drive.
My advice is to use a drain pan under the coolant valve to catch as much as possible, and plan on having a small mess to clean up too.
