It really depends on how big your kids are, and on how often you all ride together. I have two Britax Marathons, outboard postions in the MY05 SW, and a single carseat in the right rear outboard of the MY99, so we can "split" the kids occasionally.
There is room in the middle for another car seat, but there are only two LATCH connection positions, both outboard, so the middle seat has to be secured with seat belts.
Other than that, check my member's gallery here to see what the cars, both with Thule roof top carriers, look like.
Every time I go on vacation, I am happy with the mileage and the ride. For getting around town, the mileage is better than most vans, I am sure.
Make sure you get one with roof racks, and if you have a lot of snow and ice, stay away from the Aero, which has low fairings.
