I honestly don't remember the black blocks. If you place the shade in the location where it would appear to be correctly positioned, you can then look directly below the place where the holes should be. They are round (1-1 1/2"dia) and the only ones that I could see in the vicinity of the area of concern. It is an awkward place to work and I found mine by feel by sticking my index finger into the holes. The prepunched location was also offset from the center of the access hole so I found that an increased challende as well. The instructions were not that great (they never are) so just go slow before you drill the first hole.
