... regardless of the price, they should not feel spongy. There is no break in period. IF they are spongy, something is wrong and they will not get better on their own.
it is common for the retaining spring to be replaced backwards causing a spongy feel ... but there are other reasons for a spongy feel too.
Do have them looked at, and corrected.
