Leak was from a loose rubber boot housing the wire for the right side market light. Water was coming off the roof, cowl, running inside the sheet metal, down the wire, through the metal hole and into the cabin where it dripped behind the foam and filled up the passanger footwells (they're connected btw) so a wet front carpet may be from a rear leak that spilled over (there are flow through holes in the spine under the seat)...
I think I may have loosened the rubber boot when changing cabin air filters in the summer and the water may have started collecting in the fall...excessive liquid such as melting snow resulted in water running down this metal panel and filling the cabin. So next time you're in there wrestling with the cabin filter, watch those wires! one of them is connected to a loose fitting rubber boot!
