In fact my total over the 495 miles of my trip was about identical to yours.
I was curious how the winter highway mileage would hold up now that the car is broken in (~ 6600 miles). All summer on highway trips did 30.x-34.x. The drive this past week of ~ 500 miles round trip is one I do frequently and I was getting a pretty consistent 33.x during summer.
On outbound leg topped off with Shell V-Power at station I generally fill-up. Now that winter is here it is ethanol blend; all summer their sign said no ethanol. Temps were in 20s. Local roads were sort of crappy with snow and ice from day before but once I got out to the interstate they were dry except a few localized areas although there were also some snow and ice at times at edge or roadway so I eased off as I came upon these area which meant much less steady throttle than normal. At no point on either leg did I use the cruise. At one point we did come to a stop then crawled along for a little while. Still by the time I topped off the tank (mid-grade 89 with ethanol) the SID was reading 29.0 mpg and hand calculations produced 28.75. Not bad for the conditions. Reset SID and completed 20 mile drive to destination (SID was reading ~ 30 on arrival).
Couple days later made cold start and idled engine as we cleared snow away and swapped garaged cars around. Doing this caused SID indicated mpg to drop like rock (since it was only based on 20 mile average at that point).
Soon after setting out on return leg SID was as low as 24.x but slowly mileage began to recover (finally hit 28.0 ~180 miles into return leg). Interstate was good condition and ran 75 mph all the way home. Took on gas again just before getting home at which point SID was at 28.7 and hand calculations indicated 28.5. Again no cruise this leg and temps 18-21 F.
Total for 495 mile trip was 28.69 mph per hand calculations. Not too bad for winter drive under less than ideal conditions and ethanol blended fuel.
