Yep, you're doing something wrong, haha. Whatever you're doing is setting off the speaker test where it goes around to each speaker so you can make sure they're all working correctly. I know how to do it in my 2001, but I'm not sure if they changed anything in 2002. WIS says to hold down the TP/PTY button (? I have never heard of this button) while turning on the stereo. Then use the seek button to scroll through the different sound settings. When you get to the Speed Dependent Volume Setting, use the VOL button to cycle ON and OFF. To tell you the through, I have had it set ON and OFF in my car and can tell no difference whatsoever. I've actually been meaning to post a question to see if anyone else notices a difference.
