Your car does have a idle control system but it isn't a replacable part per se. it is called the throttle position interface with the computer this sets the speeed of the idle with five or six inputs. If your car has a lot of miles it needs the pots cleaned in the position section of the TBA. (Right side looking aft) These can't be reached with the TB on the car- it must be removed and the black cover removed and everything thoroughly cleaned. A shot of Berrymans down the gullet just won't work. This is a 100 buck repair at a good SAAB dealer. It can be done by Experienced DIY guy but is a bit tricky. I would let this be done by an INdy who knows his stuff or the daeler. Those dealers who have other mechanics familliar with universal cars may not be the right ones either.
It sounds like you need a TB service. and the Limp reset to free up the computer interface so the computer can do its thing. You are driving by cable rather than by computer - as soon as you reset the "LIMP" you should be ok
