Gap to set plugs for 02 Aero

I'm about to replace the plugs in my '02 Aero. After reading some postings, I bought the NGK BCPR6ES type and some dialectic grease. All I need now is to know the gap at which to set them, based on the situation I'll describe below:
The car's at 77K/mi and running rough at idle and missing while off-throttle at highway speeds. In short it's demonstrating the symptoms of a failing TB. I've already cleaned the TB (thanks, guys). Plugs are the next step in perhaps finding an economical solution. Next is a trip to the dealer to MAKE SURE I have the latest ECU upgrade.
I've read about folks re-gapping the plugs, but am unsure why. Isn't the SAAB factory spec the only spec one needs? (Why have I read some folks altering the gap at times?)
Advice apperciated,
Anderson
