Hi all - this is a long post, but I need to explain this situation. I have a 2002 9-5 3.0 v6 and recently completed a "partial" 60k service where I was going to have the timing belt, pulleys, tensioners done at my local dealer, then get the other items completed at local indy. This is because quoted price for the work above + "regular" 60k service was $1700 at dealer - so I passed. Indy recommended me getting belt changed at dealer + pulleys so that I could deal with them if needed on all that. They'd do the other 60k items for $525.
So, I headed to the dealer and was prepared to pay about $500 for the "free" belt, tensioners and pulley work per their quote. While there, I mentioned that I had called SAAB customer assistance about a recurring problem I had with heated seats and that my SID was going out again. They said I'd have to pay for new seat switches $45 ea, and a new SID $425. I told them I'd call SAAB again and ask them about all of it since the seats have been broken and attempted to be fixed annually for the last three years and the last SID replaced about two years ago while under warranty should have lasted longer than this. The fact that I called SAAB seemed to get the whole service dept. concerned.
While the other work was being done, I asked for the serp belt to be changed, and the water pump inspected. They called and said the water pump was leaking at the "weep hole?" and that if I paid for the part, they'd pay for labor. Anyway, after two days or so I went to pickup the car.
The following items were completed according to the paper work, (timing belt change, new pulleys and rollers, serp belt change, water pump replacement, oil change, seat switches, new SID) all for less than $400.
The other items were called "goodwill" or "warranty". I am planning on visiting the local indy for the other 60k items (fluids, plugs, etc.) - but my question is, should I be worried that all this was done for so little $ or do you think the fact I called SAAB 800# was seen as some sort of escalation that somehow unleashed all this "goodwill"?
What can I do to check to be sure that this work was actually done? Can the indy easily check the belts, pulleys, etc.? The seats finally work (yea!), and the SID seems to be a new one. Is this too good to be true? Thanks for the advice.
